Teacher Refresher Courses at OSE

This course is designed for non-native English speakers with teaching experience and qualifications from their home countries. It delves into contemporary language teaching theory and practice, emphasizing methodology, materials, and advanced language analysis, while also incorporating social and cultural activities. The training adopts an interactive approach, combining workshops and presentations to encourage lively discussions.

Ammenities

  • Minimum Language Level: CEFR C1
  • Class Size: 5 – 10 students
  • Instructor Credentials: Professional teacher training provided by experienced trainers, all of whom hold DELTA qualifications and/or advanced degrees (Master’s or PhD).
  • Accommodation: Half-board homestay (single room, bed, breakfast & dinner) available at current rates.

The course objectives:

  • To explore the latest methodologies and best practice to enhance teaching skills
  • To gain a deeper understanding of the English language
  • To share ideas and experience with fellow language-teaching professionals

What's included

Methodology

In these sessions, various aspects of foreign language pedagogy will be presented and discussed, including different ways of teaching new language, such as communicative, lexical and task-based approaches. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences and views.

Advanced Language Awareness

These sessions will focus on pedagogical grammar and aspects of lexis such as morphology, collocations and idioms.

Teaching the Four Skills

Ways of teaching the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking (including pronunciation) will be discussed. The focus will be on practical activities for classroom use, including poems, stories and songs. These sessions will be workshop-based and will include hands-on materials design.

There are progress tests for all students every two weeks, enabling our teachers to closely monitor learning and to guide and support each student more effectively. There are also fortnightly tutorials, during which individual learning targets are discussed and reviewed.

If you are working in education in the EU, the Oxford School of English Teacher Refresher Courses are eligible for grants under the Erasmus+ programme. These courses provide opportunities for people to broaden their knowledge, develop their professional skills and to work together, sharing good practice and discussing innovative approaches to common challenges: improving employability through skills and education.
