London Summer School Important Information

Homestay accommodation

Homestay accommodation in single rooms is available to individual students aged 16 and over. Students younger than 16 years old must share a twin room. Students may request to share a twin room with a student of a different nationality, however availability will depend on our other bookings. A combination of under 18s and over 18s cannot share a room.

Host families provide breakfast and an evening meal. Families are not required to provide Halal meat, however they can provide vegetarian meals. Special dietary requirements or allergies can be accommodated if specified at the time of booking and incur a supplement. Packed lunches are provided at the school.

Residential accommodation

All residential accommodation is in single, en-suite rooms at Clive Booth Halls of residence part of Oxford Brookes University. It is available to students aged 12 years and over. All bed linen is included and rooms are cleaned once a week. Students are required to bring their own towels and a hairdryer if required. There are laundry facilities available at the accommodation which are payable locally.

Students are required to pay a deposit (GBP50) on arrival when they collect their room key. This is returned to them on departure, provided that there is no damage to their room.

Students may be asked to change rooms during their stay so that we can ensure that they are staying close to our residential staff members.

All meals (breakfast, hot lunch and hot dinner) are provided at City of Oxford College or a nearby location within the city centre.

Airport transfers

Airport transfers can be arranged as detailed above. Students may be required to wait a short time and to share a taxi with other individual junior students from our school. A private taxi can be arranged for a small supplement. Please contact us for details. All our drivers are DBS checked and in contact with the Operations Manager.

For students who are booked to travel with their airline as an unaccompanied minor, we offer a service where a specified person meets them on arrival and accompanies them through check-in on departure. This is mandatory for students aged 14 and under.

Where four or more students are travelling together, please contact us for group travel rates.

English level and age requirements

The students will complete a placement test on their first day. They are then placed in international classes according to level. The minimum class level is usually A1 (elementary). Tuition for beginners (A0) is available, usually at an extra cost.

Personal information

We require a student phone number for emergency contact information during their stay. This is for OSE staff use and the host families. This number must a mobile phone number that they have while they are studying with us.

We require an email address for each student to enable the students to complete our week 1 and end of course questionnaires.
We will not use any personal information for marketing purposes and we will not pass your information on to third parties.

Marketing Purposes

On occasion we may take photos, videos and quotes from students for promotional purposes. If students do not wish to be part of these promotional activities, please let an Oxford School of English staff member know so we can be sure to not include them.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS OF UNDER 18s

Please note that students will be supervised most of the time but there will be times when students will not be supervised.

Your son/daughter will have unsupervised free time in Oxford during the time between the end of the classes/activities (12:30 – 14:00) and the time after their evening meal at their accommodation (19:00 – 21:30).

Your son/daughter will have unsupervised free time on their free day on Saturday or Sunday (if applicable) from 09:00 – 18:30.  If your child is 14 or under, they will remain with their host family or member of staff for the day.

Your son/daughter will have free time for shopping on trips arranged by the school. Students are given one hour in most cases, occasionally an hour and a half to go shopping and enjoy the attractions in that particular area. Students will have our 24-hour emergency contact number.

Students will be asked to follow these guidelines and take our advice to:

  • Call group leaders or the school if ill; students will have to come into school if their host family is not home or if staying in the student accommodation.  The school will arrange medical attention if necessary.

  • Call the school if there is any other reason for which they cannot come to school.

  • Respect the host-family’s and school’s curfew time and make sure they are home no later than 9:30pm.

  • Always travel in pairs or in a group for safety especially in the evenings or late at night.

  • Always carry the bus time-table or download the app so they know what time the buses are due.

  • Always use the main roads when walking home in the evenings and to not use short-cuts.

  • Always use the pedestrian crossings when crossing the road and remember we drive on the left-hand side of the road in the UK.

  • Always carry their Student Card with their host-family’s telephone number and the school’s emergency numbers with them and not just in their phone.

  • Not accept lifts from people they do not know or anyone who claims to know them through a friend or their host-family.

  • Not accept any alcohol from anyone and not offer to carry any alcohol or drugs from anyone.

  • Make sure they know the meeting time place and have the emergency telephone numbers when they are given free time during an excursion.

  • Always travel in pairs or groups and always inform the school at the end of the excursion and when you have arrived home, if they are allowed to make their own way home from a weekday excursion.

  • Speak to our welfare officer or anyone at the school if they have any questions or problems.
