You can apply as an adult student under Tier 4 (General) of the points-based system if you are coming to Oxford School of English for your post-16 education.

You can apply as a student visitor if you are 18 years old or over, you want to come and study at Oxford School of English for up to 11 months, and you do not want to work while you are here.

You cannot switch and apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa while you are in the UK as a student visitor. If you want to apply for an Tier 4 (General) student visa, you must apply from the country you live in.

To study for less than 11 months, you will need a Student Visitor Visa or a General Student Visa under Tier 4 of the Points-Based System.
Studying on a Student Visitor Visa (SVV) or Extended Student Visitor Visa (ESVV)
  • You can apply as a student visitor if you are 18 years old or over, you want to come to study in the UK for up to 6 months (SVV) or 11 months (ESVV), and you do not want to work while you are here.
  • You cannot apply for Tier 4 (General Student Visa) while you are in the UK as a student visitor.
  • You must be aged 18 or over, and you must have been accepted on a course of study by Oxford School of English.
  • To enter the UK you will need a letter of confirmation issued by Oxford School of English. The confirmation letter will be sent to you as soon as we have received full payment.
  • You must provide evidence to the immigration officer at the UK border of funding available to you.

Studying on a General Student Visa (GSV)
  • You can apply as an adult student under Tier 4 (General Student Visa) of the points-based system if you are 16 or over.
  • You will need to provide a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies reference number (CAS), which will be issued by Oxford School of English, and the printed CAS statement.
  • You will need to prove that your language level is at least B1 if you are applying from outside the UK, or at least B2 if you are applying from inside the UK. Please click here for further information.

How can I obtain a CAS number issued by Oxford School of English
  • Be advised that Oxford School of English accepts students who require a General Student Visa only from trusted agencies.
  • Once you have enrolled at our school we will send you a CAS application form which must be completed and submitted to us.
  • You must show us proof that you have a valid English Language qualification at CEFR Level B1 (if you are applying from outside the UK) or B2 (if you are applying from inside the UK) before we can issue a CAS. Please click here for further information.
  • When we are satisfied that you have an appropriate English Language qualification we will request a CAS number from the United Kingdom Home Office. If your test results show that your language level is below level B1 you cannot apply for a General Student Visa but you can still come to study with a Student Visitor Visa (see above).
  • As soon as a CAS number has been assigned to you we will send you a link to your CAS statement which you must print and attach to your visa application form.
  • The original score reports/certificates for the English Language test you have taken must be attached to your application form.
Please note: once a CAS number is assigned to you NO ALTERATIONS OF THE DETAILS YOU SUBMITTED TO US CAN BE MADE except for the PAYMENT DETAILS. IF CHANGES HAVE TO BE MADE THE ENTIRE CAS PROCESS HAS TO BE WITHDRAWN AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED GBP 25 FOR A NEW CAS NUMBER.

    You can study for up to 11 months with a Student Visitor Visa, or for a longer period with a General Student Visa. However, if you have a Student Visitor Visa and you decide to extend your stay in the UK, you will need to return to your country to apply for a new visa. If you have a General Student Visa, you can apply for a new visa from the UK.
